Company Overview

Walter Frank engineers are pioneers in the use of aluminium and copper-based alloys for fire-fighting equipment.

Walter Frank manufactures a comprehensive range of fittings and hydrant valves in aluminium, gunmetal and other non-ferrous alloys to British, American and other standards. Walter Frank has a comprehensive product portfolio of valves and fittings, offering a bespoke design and engineering service for unique product solutions.

Walter Frank has been part of Westley Group since 2005. The company shares extensive machining and assembly facilities with sister company, Francis W Birkett, and also undertakes work for non-fire related industries. Aluminium components are produced in our in-house die casting foundry, while copper-based sand castings are produced on our semi-automatic carousel at the Group’s sand casting centre of excellence, J. T. Price.

Walter Frank’s manufacturing platforms are ISO 9001 approved. Where possible, we aim to provide product solutions out of our extensive stock-holding, however, we are able to supply on short lead times where bespoke manufacturing is required.

Our approach is a total commitment to quality and customer service. Our policy of continuous improvement means we are at the forefront of product innovation in our field. Our aim is to be the world’s leading manufacturer of fluid control products for the fire prevention, extinguishing and suppressant industries.

Company History

Walter Frank was established in Barnsley in 1881 by the Frank family. Originally iron founders and mould makers, the company’s present day focus is specialist fire-fittings and water-transfer products for the fire-protection industry.

During the Second World War, Walter Frank pioneered the use of aluminium alloy fire-fighting equipment. This saw them expand their production facilities to include aluminium die casting and machining.

In 1978, the Kent family took ownership and further expanded manufacturing facilities to include additional materials and new product innovations. In 1986, Walter Frank became the first company to be registered to BS5750 Part 2 for the manufacture of fire hose fittings, cementing its reputation for quality, reliability and service.

In 2006, Walter Frank was a strategic purchase by the UK’s largest non-ferrous foundry group, Westley Group. Walter Frank moved production facilities from Barnsley to Cleckheaton, where it shares its site with sister company Francis W. Birkett. In recent years Walter Frank has seen continued growth and investment in manufacturing processes, which has included the creation of an in-house production cell at sister company Meighs & Westleys. The installation of the semi-automatic carousel has enabled Walter Frank to expand production of key products such as its PRV9i range of Pressure Regulating Valves. In 2011, PRV9i was awarded the first FM Approval of its kind. The product is supplied to prestigious projects all over the globe.
